 en Opala-INIA, a New Spring Bread Wheat Cultivar for the South Central Area of Chile

Abstract

Opala-INIA is a spring bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivar released by the Wheat Project at Quilamapu Regional Research Center, National Agricultural Research Institute (INIA), Chillán, developed from advanced material received from CIMMYT in 1991. It has been included in yield trials since 1994. It is a semi-dwarf wheat, 85 - 95 cm plant height, resistant to Puccinia striiformis and Puccinia recondita. In trials its grain yield has varied between 7 and 11 t ha-1. The quality index classified this variety for direct use in bread making.

Resumen

Opala-INIA es un cultivar de trigo (Triticum aestivum L.), de primavera liberado por el Proyecto Trigo del Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias (INIA), en el Centro Regional de Investigación Quilamapu, Chillán, a partir de un material avanzado recibido del CIMMYT en 1991. Fue incluido en ensayos de rendimiento desde 1994. Es un trigo semienano con una altura de planta de 85 a 95 cm, resistente a Puccinia striiformis y Puccinia recondita. En ensayos su rendimiento ha variado entre 7 y 11 t ha-1. Los índices de calidad clasifican a esta variedad como de panificación directa.
