Abstract

The cytopathogenicity and replicative capacity of the HIV-1 isolates with the serological marker of anti p24 antibodies (Abp24) in serum, the co- infection with other human retroviruses, and the clinical evolution to AIDS were correlated in our study. The virus was isolated in all patients showing rapid progression to AIDS, most of the strains were of a high rapid growth and sincitium inducing, while virus recovery was lower in the long term survivors, and the cytopathogenecity of the isolated strains increased with the appearance of clinical symptoms. A high correlation between the Abp24 serological marker in the serum and the biological properties of the isolated strains was observed.
