Methods: The study design was experimental. At each monthly visit of the patient to the clinic, Medical School students from Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) participants of the Continuum Extension Project, repeatedly provided information on chronic disease and its treatment, conducting educational orientation individually during each consultation. For the interviews, we used a questionnaire created by the authors to assess the retention of information by the patient, applied at the initial medical appointment and six months after implementation of the health education project. Results: There was an increase of information on diagnoses consistent with reality, as well as on the drugs in use; the 33.3% that reported knowing the names of the medications in use at the beginning of follow-up changed to 65.5%; the 12.5% that knew the side effects of medications increased to 41.7%. Conclusion: We conclude that, in short term, there was an improvement in information acquired by patients after health educations actions provided by the academic extension project. INFORMAÇÃO DO PACIENTE SOBRE SUA DOENÇA E TERAPÊUTICA EM PROJETO DE EXTENSÃO UNIVERSITÁRIA de Sousa-Muñoz, Rilva Lopes; Fernandes, Bruno Melo; de Athayde, Rodolfo Augusto Bacelar; Duarte, Samuel Gouveia da Costa; Silva, Isabel Barroso Augusto & de Figueiredo, Ângela Siqueira Resumo Objetivo: Avaliar a informação adquirida pelo paciente sobre sua doença e terapêutica após seis meses de acompanhamento ambulatorial em Hospital Universitário com ações de educação em saúde de um projeto de extensão. Métodos: O modelo do estudo foi experimental. A cada visita mensal do paciente ao ambulatório, os alunos do Curso de Medicina da Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB) participantes do Projeto Continuum de Extensão forneceram, de forma repetida, informações sobre a doença crônica e tratamento, realizando orientação educativa individual durante cada consulta. Para a realização das entrevistas, foi utilizado um questionário elaborado pelos autores para avaliar a retenção da informação pelo paciente, aplicado no atendimento inicial e seis meses após a execução do projeto de educação em saúde. Resultados: Houve ampliação da informação sobre diagnósticos, que foram congruentes com os reais, assim como sobre os medicamentos em uso; os 33,3% que relataram conhecer o nome dos medicamentos em uso no início do acompanhamento passaram para 65,5%; os 12,5% que sabiam os efeitos colaterais dos medicamentos aumentaram para 41,7%. Conclusão: Conclui-se que, em curto prazo, houve uma melhora da informação adquirida pelos pacientes após as ações de educação em saúde promovidas pelo projeto de extensão universitária.
