The influence of El Niño Southern Oscillation episodes (ENSO) on rainfall in Monagas State, Venezuela López Pérez, Nadiezhda Abstract The principal objective of this investigation is making a comparative analyze of the precipitations in the State of Monagas between the normal years, El Niño and La Niña years. Monthly and yearly precipitation data has been analyzed in six meteorological stations from the hydro-meteorological net of the Ministry of Environment (MINAMB by its initials in Spanish) with the goal of determining the rainfall variations between such events. It has been determined, that the dry period (January-April) is more affected by these phenomena that the wet season (May-December). In El Niño years it rains less in such season, and in La Niña years it rains more. Keywords Precipitation, La Niña, El Niño, ENSO.

Influencia de episodios El Niño-Oscilación del Sur (ENOS) sobre la precipitación en el Estado Monagas, Venezuela López Pérez, Nadiezhda Resumen Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo principal realizar un análisis comparativo de las precipitaciones en el Estado Monagas entre los años normales, El Niño y La Niña. Se analizaron datos mensuales y anuales de precipitación en seis estaciones meteorológicas pertenecientes a la red hidrometeorológica del Ministerio del Ambiente (MINAMB) con el fin de determinar las variaciones pluviométricas durante dichos eventos. Se determinó, que el periodo seco (enero-abril) está más afectado por estos fenómenos que el periodo húmedo (mayo-diciembre). En los años El Niño llueve menos en dicha temporada y en los años La Niña al contrario precipita más. Palabras-clave Precipitación, La Niña, El Niño, ENOS.
