Abstract

ROSALES CJ. 2001. Observed swimming behavior in larvae of Periphoba hircia check for this species in other resources (Cramer) and Pseudodirphia albosignata (Bouvier) (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). Entomotropica 16(1):63-65.

Larvae of the two species, which are secondary pests of Eucalyptus in commercial plantations near San Carlos, Cojedes state, after descending from that host trees for pupating are able to cross small rain water bodies which border the plantation by active swimming.

Resumen

ROSALES CJ. 2001. Observaciones sobre natación en larvas de Periphoba hircia check for this species in other resources (Cramer) y Pseudodirphia albosignata (Bouvier) (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). Entomotropica 16(1):63-65.

Las larvas de dos especies, plagas secundarias en plantaciones de eucaliptos en San Carlos, estado Cojedes, al bajar al suelo en la fase de prepupa, están "capacitadas" para atravesar "nadando" depósitos de agua de lluvia en los bordes de las plantaciones, cuando se dirigen a un sitio apropiado para pupar.
