A new species belonging to the "amabilis" group of the genus
Hexachaeta from the states Aragua and Carabobo in Venezuela, is described and illustrated. Information on the taxonomy and distribution of other known species within the group,
H. amabilis (Loew, 1873),
H. obscura Hendel, 1914, and
H. shannoni Lima, 1953 is presented, including additional diagnostic characters, as well as a key for recognition of the species. Venezuelan records for other species of
Hexachaeta are re-examined, including
H. venezuelana Lima, 1953;
H. valida Lima, 1954; and
H. nigriventris Hernández, 1999, and the first records of
H. oblita Lima, 1954 are documented from that country.
