Effect of urea addition on chemist composition and in vitro dry matter digestibility of Brachiaria humidicola (Rendle) Schweick hay harvesd at different cutting ages N. Rodríguez-Romero, O. González Abstract With the purpose of evaluating the effect of the urea addition of the hay of Brachiaria humidicola at differents cutting ages on dry matter (MS), ash and nitrogen content (N) and digestibility in vitro of the dry matter (DIVMS) a research was carried out under tropical dry forest conditions at Perija region in Venezuela. The desing used was a completely randomized with a split plot arragement and three repetitions. In the main plots were located the five strip of the cutting ages (30, 44, 58, 72 and 86 days) for the hay production, using one hectare with Brachiaria humidicola with an effective area of 102 m2 for each cutting ages strip. The chopped hay was placed in plastic bags and it was added 0, 3 and 6% of urea diluted with 40% of water in relation to the dry weight of the hay. It was stored for 28 days at ambient temperature. Samples from hay were taken for MS content, ash and N and DIVMS. The results show a effect of the urea adddition (P<0.0001) on the variables, with increasing of N from 1.2 to 2.9% and DIVMS from 65.1 to 70.8%; the MS and ash content decresing from 93.8 to 69.6% and from 6.2 to 5.7%, respectively. Showed an effect of the cutting age (P<0.005) on the variables, with decreasing in the ash content (from 7.4 to 5.3%), N content (from 2.1 to 1.6%), and DIVMS (from 71.0 to 64.8%) from 30 to 86 days, respectively. The DIVMS was affected (P<0.005) by the interaction cutting age x urea treatments, with the valor more high of 74.2% at 30 days of cutting age with 3% of urea. Efecto de la adición de urea sobre la composición química y digestibilidad in vitro de la materia seca de heno de Brachiaria humidicola (Rendle) Schweick cosechado a diferentes edades N. Rodríguez-Romero, O. Araujo-Febres y B. González Resumen Con el fin de evaluar el efecto de la adición de urea sobre heno de Brachiaria humidicola a diferentes edades de corte sobre el contenido de materia seca (MS), cenizas y nitrógeno (N) y digestibilidad in vitro de la materia seca (DIVMS), se condujo una investigación en la región de Perijá, Venezuela, bajo condiciones de bosque seco tropical. Se utilizó un diseño totalmente aleatorizado con un arreglo en parcelas divididas y tres repeticiones, ubicando las edades de corte en las parcelas principales. Para la producción del heno se utilizó un potrero de una hectárea de Brachiaria humidicola, donde se ubicaron cinco franjas al azar con un área efectiva de 102 m2 para cada uno de la edades de corte. El forraje se cosechó a los 30, 44, 58, 72 y 86 días de rebrote y luego se henificó y picó. El heno picado fue colocado en bolsas plásticas y se le adicionó 0, 3 y 6% de urea diluida en 40% de agua en relación al peso seco del heno. El heno tratado se almacenó durante 28 días a temperatura ambiente. Se analizaron los contenidos de MS, cenizas, N y DIVMS. La adición de urea (P<0.0001) resultó en aumentos promedios de 1.1 a 2.9% y de 65.1 a 70.8% para N y DIVMS, respectivamente; la MS y las cenizas disminuyeron de 93.8 a 69.6% y de 6.2 a 5.7%. La edad de corte afectó (P<0.005) las variables en estudio, donde el contenido de cenizas disminuyó de 7.4 a 5.3%; el N de 2.1 a 1.5% y la DIVMS de 71.0 a 64.8% desde 30 hasta 86 días, respectivamente. La DIVMS fue afectada (P<0.005) por la interacción edad de rebrote x tratamiento de urea, observándose el valor más alto de 74.2% a los 30 días de edad de corte con el 3% de urea.
