Esneda Barrera, Nancy Cerón, Martha Consuelo Ariza

Abstract

The design of the study was descriptive and correlational. The subjects were 68 employees classified by groups, the board of directors, the operative employees, general service and faculty. A structured interview and a questionnaire were applied to all of them. The independent variables were included in the questionnaires, they were knowledge about cardiovascular risk and modificable and non-modificable risk factors and the dependent variables, arterial hypertension, biophysical measures such as blood pressure testing, size, weight, glycemia and cholesterol. The majority of the studied population knows the cardiovascular risk factors. However, there are non-modificable factors such as: age and family antecedents and modificable factors such as: over-weight, sedentarism, stress and high level of cholesterol present as risk factors. Significant association was found between family antecedents and the presence of hypertensive disease. There was no association of this pathology with the remainder risk factors.
