A present look of the symbols in nursing Burbano, Consuelo Abstract The historical investigation as well as a critical assessment of previous events related to nursing, reveal their effects on nursing present behaviours and practice. Nursing as science and discipline is constituted by memorable facts; nursing is the science of human existence in time; it comes from the past and goes to the future; as others sciences, it has been built slowly through three stages: knowledge, ethics, and aesthetics. Una mirada actual de la simbología en enfermería Burbano, Consuelo Resumen La investigación histórica y la valoración crítica de acontecimientos pasados que se refieren a la disciplina de enfermería revelan los efectos de la historia en conductas y prácticas presentes. La enfermería como ciencia y disciplina está constituida por hechos memorables; es la ciencia del devenir del ser humano en el tiempo, viene del ayer y va hacia el mañana. Como tantas otras ciencias se ha ido construyendo poco a poco en tres momentos: el conocimiento, la ética y la estética. La simbología en enfermería, la más antigua de las artes y la más joven de las profesiones, recuerda la historia, las conductas, pero ante todo debe orientarse con sentido crítico y de acuerdo con las prácticas actuales de la disciplina.
