fr DETERMINANTS DE L’UTILISATION DES SERVICES DE SANTE PAR LES MENAGES DU DISTRICT DE RUBAVU
MUNYAMAHORO, M. & NTAGANIRA, J.

Abstract

The utilization of basic Health services in Rwanda is one of the key factors that lead to better health for its population. Even if the quality of services is known to be the main explanation of the level of services utilization, this study shows the importance of some other factors which should be considered to raise the health services utilization level. This study’s results show that, for the last episode of illness, more than 92 % of patients have been consulted by different modern health structures and 7.4% by the traditional healer. For the maternal health, the use of the contraceptive methods is 29.5 % and 73 % of delivery were assisted by a qualified personnel. Among the 96 % of the women who consulted the antenatal care services during the pregnancy, only 24 % completed the four standard visits of antenatal care. Finally, the results of this study show that the use of health services by the households of Rubavu District depends on various factors connected both to the individual (age, sex, level of education of the domestic leader) and to the environment. When concluding, this study suggests in-depth similar studies to be conducted on national level, as there are not enough studies conducted in the same area.
