Introduction: Adenocarcinoma of the prostate is the second cause of death in the US and most particularly in African Americans. Data on sub- Saharan region and particularly in Rwanda is very scarce and this study aims at describing the profile of patients with prostate cancer at King Faisal Hospital, Kigali (KFH).
Objectives: To define demographic status, clinical presentation and management of patient with prostate cancer at KFH
Methods: 227 patients’ records from King Faisal Hospital (KFH) pathology department from 1st January 2010 to 31st October 2013 for whom a prostate biopsy was carried out for the suspicion of prostate cancer were reviewed. These included 110 patients from KFH, 78 from Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Kigali (CHUK) and the rest from other hospitals. Only cases from KFH were analysed, as relevant data was available at site. Patients’ demographics, history, investigations and management were analysed.
Results: Analysis of data including, demographics, clinical presentation, DRE, ultrasound and PSA findings, prostate biopsy, Gleason grading and management are carried out. Our results are discussed in the light of the international prostate cancer management guidelines.
