Resumen

Parasitas do gênero Leishmania check for this species in other resources são protozoários intracelulares obrigatórios responsáveis por causar um complexo de doenças humanas e animais denominadas leishmanioses. A transmissão ocorre, principalmente, pela picada do vetor (gêneros Lutzomyia check for this species in other resources ou Phloebotomus check for this species in other resources ). Assim que a Leishmania penetra no hospedeiro vertebrado, o sistema imune é ativado e passa a lutar contra a infecção através das respotas imunes inata (fagócitos, células NK e sistema complemento) e adaptativa (produção de citocinas e anticorpos). Por sua vez, o parasita consegue evadir a resposta imune, levando a uma cronicidade da infecção. Os mecanismos básicos relacionados à evasão da Leishmania serão revisados.

Abstract

Parasites from genus Leishmania check for this species in other resources are intracellular obligate protozoan responsible for causing human and animal complex of diseases called leishmaniasis. Transmission occurs mainly after vector biting (genus Lutzomyia check for this species in other resources or Phloebotomus check for this species in other resources ). When Leishmania enters vertebrate host, its immune system is activated and starts to fight against infection by innate (phagocytes, NK cells and complement system) and adaptive (cytokine and antibody production) immune responses. Parasite can evade immune response providing chronic infection. Basic Leishmania evasion-related mechanisms will be revised.
