Instituto De Investigaciones Clínicas De La Universidad Del Zulia José A. Santeliz G. Resumen En aras de recuperar la memoria histórico-médica de la ciudad y región, se analiza sucintamente el proceso historiográfico de la institución pionera en el área de la investigación biomédica en el occidente del país. De la mente y obra del Dr. Américo Negrette surge en 1959 lo que después se conocerá como Instituto de Investigaciones Clínicas, de la Universidad del Zulia, desde entonces se ha transformado en referencia para el estudio de importantes problemas de salud pública regional y nacional, destacándose en las áreas de virología, bioquímica, neurofisiología, inmunología, biología celular y/o hematología. En particular, el Instituto se ha transformado en referencia en áreas como la de encefalitis equina venezolana, diabetes, anemias y/o la Corea de Huntington y en virtud de ello se proyecta a nivel local, regional y nacional, incluso internacionalmente, como centro de avanzada para la investigación biomédica. Abstract For the sake of recovering the historical -medical memory of the city and region, it is analyzed succinctly the historical process of the pioneer institution in the biomedical investigation area in the occident of the country. Of the mind and work of the Dr. Americo Negrette arises in 1959 the institution that later will be known as Institute of Clinical Investigations, of the Universidad del Zulia, from then on it has become reference for the study of important problems of regional and national public health, standing out in the virology areas, biochemistry, neurophysiology, immunology, cellular biology and/or hematology. In particular, the Institute has become reference in areas such as venezuelan equine encephalitis, diabetes, anemia and/or the Huntington disease and by virtue of these and other works it is projected at local, regional and national level, even internationally, like outpost center for the biomedical investigation.
