en Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (Esr): Assessment Of Accuracy Of Dispette® System Using Undiluted Blood.
Do Carmo, Freitas & de Lourdes, María

Abstract

The Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ERS) is useful for diagnosing acute inflammatory processes, and in the diagnosis and progress of chronic neoplasic and degenerative disorders. In its determination, dilution is the critical step. The H2-A3 document CLSI states that diluted whole blood should be used for the routine determination of ERS. In our country, there are some laboratories that use the Dispette® System without further dilution of the sample; therefore, our objective was to evaluate how accurate this system is with non diluted blood in comparison to the Reference Method. 109 samples of undiluted blood were processed using Dispette® and the results were w compared to those obtained by the reference method. The assessment was carried out by comparing the Dispette® System with the Reference system. The results showed 68, 47% of reject and 30,48% of acceptance. The Dispette® System, without later dilution, does not yield accurate results when compared to the Reference Method.

Do Carmo, Freitas & de Lourdes, María
