Abstract

Celiac disease (CD) is a chronic intestinal disease caused by gluten intolerance, characterized by immune-mediated enteropathy be associated with malabsorption of nutrients and vitamins. Its prevalence has been estimated around 1-3% in Europe and the U.S., affecting mostly females during the fourth and fifth decade of life. Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) is an entity that is associated with thrombotic events, arterial and venous, high pregnancy morbidity, mainly abortions, recurrent fetal loss and prematurity associated with elevated titers of anticardiolipin or Lupus anticoagulant antibodies. We present a female patient 27 years old diagnosed with celiac disease since 2004 who presented positive anticardiolipin antibodies and antiβ2 glicoprotein IgM (13.5 UI/ml) and IgG (11.7 UI/ml), spontaneous abortion and recent thrombotic events that suggested the diagnosis of Antiphospholipid Syndrome. Given the limited information in the literature on the association of EC and SAF we believe the information presented may be useful.
