Osorio, Ilva Campagna; Castro, Alyst; Gamez, Marisela; Rasquin, Mariela & Vergara, Katherine

Abstract

Multitasking behavior is a trend increasingly frequent in the Venezuelan society and the Western culture. Nowadays, people around the world tend to get involved in a lifestyle that is overloaded with information and activities with little content, which may negatively influence effectiveness, interpersonal relationships, or cognitive abilities. In this study, the IMMAK questionnaire was validated. This questionnaire is a measure instrument for the study of this variable—the Multitasking Behavior— and was applied to a sample of 127 people (69 women and 58 men) of the Metropolitan area of Caracas. Factor Analysis and convergent validity were applied, performing a contrast with Bluedorn’s Inventory of Polychronic Values, 1999. Additionally, internal consistency of the questionnaire and the dimensions comprising the variable were analyzed using parametric statistics. The study yielded satisfactory results, which allow affirming that the IMMAK Questionnaire is a suitable instrument for distinguishing people who perceive themselves as prone to multitasking behavior from those who do not.
