Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the ability of biofilm formation on S. aureus check for this species in other resources isolates according to the antimicrobial susceptibility and its clinical origin. The study included 141 isolated of S. aureus, 64 obtained from asymptomatic carriers and 77 of infectious origin. The antimicrobial susceptibility was investigated by the KirbyBauer method and the biofilm formation by polystyrene microplates. 92% of the bacterial population was able to form biofilms. The sensitive and resistant strains showed a degree of biofilm production between weak to moderate, while those of infectious origin showed an inclination to moderate formation (28%) and isolates from asymptomatic carriers expressed weak biofilm production (27%.) There was no association between antimicrobial susceptibility and isolate origin with the capacity of biofilm formation (p> 0.05); however, there was an association between the degree of biofilm production for isolates of clinical origin (p<0.05).
