Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the botanical composition of two forests in dual purpose ranchs located at Northeastern of the Guárico state, Venezuela. The average annual temperature of the area is 26.9ºC, with annual precipitation ranging from 924 to 1,423 mm/yr, and seven dry months (november to may), strongly acidic soils, and low fertility. The evaluation of forests were realized with three transects of 250 m each with a minimum separation of 50 m between them. In each transect there was located an area of 10 x 10 m. The species were identified and calculated the relative importance value (RIV). The results showed that the forest in farm A consisted of 26 species, outstanding the families Leguminosae (37%), Boraginaceae (18%), and Bignoniaceae (14%), with 50% of RIV was covered by the species Tubebuia chrysantha, Acacia glomerosa, Arabiadaea brachypoda, Cordia sp., and Guazuma ulmifolia. Also, 26 species were found in farm B where the Leguminoseae family predominated with 34%, followed by Boraginaceae (20%), and Bignoniaceae (17%), with 50% of RIV covered by the species Acacia macracantha check for this species in other resources , Cordia thaisiana check for this species in other resources , Bourreria cumanensis check for this species in other resources , Tubebuia chrysantha check for this species in other resources , Acacia glomerosa check for this species in other resources , and Guazuma ulmifolia check for this species in other resources . From all species identified in two farms, at least 30% of them have forage value.

Los resultados mostraron que en la finca A el bosque constó de 26 especies, entre las cuales destacan las familias Leguminosae (37%), Boraginaceae (18%) y Bignoniaceae (14%), donde 50% del VIR fue cubierto por las especies Tubebuia chrysantha check for this species in other resources , Acacia glomerosa check for this species in other resources , Arabiadaea brachypoda check for this species in other resources , Cordia check for this species in other resources sp. y Guazuma ulmifolia check for this species in other resources . Con respecto a la finca B, la identificación botánica de las especies del bosque constó también con 26 especies, entre las cuales destacan las familias Leguminosae (34%), Boraginaceae (20%) y Bignoniaceae (17%), donde 50% del VIR fue cubierto por las especies Acacia macracantha check for this species in other resources , Cordia thaisiana check for this species in other resources , Bourreria cumanensis check for this species in other resources , Tubebuia chrysantha check for this species in other resources , Acacia glomerosa check for this species in other resources y Guazuma ulmifolia check for this species in other resources . De las especies que se identificaron en ambas fincas, al menos 30% de ellas tienen valor forrajero, lo cual refleja el potencial de aprovechamiento de este recurso en la zona y las posibilidades de incrementar la producción de leche y/o carne.
