Castillo Rodríguez & Eligio Ortega Rivas Abstract The objective of this study was to estimate some genetic parameters of traits growth in Guzerat breed. Data from 905 calves were used, which were in test of control of development pondered, and registered in the Mexican Association of Zebu Breeders. The calves were weighed at 90 ± 10 days from birth until 18 months of age. They were weaned approximately at the eight month of age. The variables studied were birth weight (BW), weaning weight adjusted to 205 days (WWA), one year weight (W365), and weight to 550 days (W550), and evaluated with an animal model through the set of programs MTDFREML considering as fixed effects the contemporary group (year and season birth and sex), ranch, and age of the cow (lineal and quadratic, covariable). The genetic effects were animal, sire, and cow. The general means for BW, WWA, W365, and W550 were 30.7, 174.8, 251.6, and 332.5 kg, respectively. The heritability for BW, WWA, W365, and W550 were 0.23, 0.53, 0.41, and 0.52, respectively. We concluded that effects genetic are important in the WWA, W365, and W550 characteristics. Estimación de algunos parámetros genéticos de crecimiento en la raza Guzerat en México Juan C. Martínez González; Froylán A. Lucero Magaña; Sonia P. Castillo Rodríguez & Eligio Ortega Rivas Resumen El objetivo del presente estudio fue estimar algunos parámetros genéticos de características de crecimiento en el ganado de la raza Guzerat. Se utilizó la información de 905 becerros de registro en prueba de control de desarrollo ponderal inscritos en la Asociación Mexicana de Criadores de Cebú. Los becerros fueron pesados cada 90 ± 10 días desde su nacimiento hasta los 18 meses de edad. Se destetaron aproximadamente a los ocho meses de edad. Las variables peso al nacer (PN), al destete ajustado a 205 días (PDA), al año (P365) y a los 550 días (P550) fueron evaluadas con un modelo animal a través del conjunto de programas MTDFREML considerando como efectos fijos el grupo contemporáneo (año y época de nacimiento y sexo), así como rancho y edad de la vaca como covariable (lineal y cuadrática) y como efectos genéticos, animal, semental y vaca. Las medias generales para PN, PDA, P365 y P550 fueron 30,7; 174,8; 251,6 y 332,5 kg, respectivamente. Mientras que los índices de herencia para PN, PDA, P365 y P550 fueron 0,23; 0,53; 0,41 y 0,52, respectivamente. Se concluye que los índices de herencia fueron altos, excepto para PN, lo que sugiere que existen variaciones genéticas aditivas que pueden ser aprovechadas para establecer programas de mejoramiento genético de PD, P365 y P550.
