Agronomic response of sugarcane varieties with potential forage value under different harvesting intervals in Yaracuy, Venezuela Silvera, Carlos Ruiz; Urdaneta, July; Borges, Jorge & Verde, Omar Abstract A field trial was conducted in Yaracuy, Venezuela, to determine the agronomics response of experimental sugarcane cultivars at different harvesting intervals and identify their potential value as cattle forage. The following growing parameters were evaluated: plant height (AP), stalks number per meter (NT), leaf:stalk ratio (RHT), green biomass per ha (BV) and adjusted per year (BVaj), dry biomass per ha (BS), and adjusted per year (BSaj). Fourteen sugarcane cultivars and four harvesting intervals (3, 4, 6, and 10 months) were tested. The effect of harvesting interval and cultivar was detected on AP, NT, BV, and BS. Also, and effect of harvesting interval was observed on RHT, BVaj, and BSaj. Plant height (AP = 2.90 m), BVaj (113.8 t FM ha-1 year-1), and BSaj (59.8 t DM ha-1 year-1 ) were higher at 10 month interval. NT (16.32 stalks/m) and RHT (0.97) were higher at four month interval. Respuesta agronómica de cultivares de caña de azúcar con potencial forrajero a diferentes intervalos de corte en Yaracuy, Venezuela Silvera, Carlos Ruiz; Urdaneta, July; Borges, Jorge & Verde, Omar Resumen Se realizó un experimento en Yaracuy, Venezuela, para determinar la respuesta agronómica de cultivares de caña de azúcar a diferentes intervalos de corte e identificar cultivares experimentales venezolanos con potencial forrajero. Se evaluaron las variables agronómicas altura de la planta (AP), número de tallos por metro lineal (NT), relación hoja:tallo (RHT), biomasa verde por ha (BV) y ajustada por año (BVaj), biomasa seca por ha (BS) y ajustada por año (BSaj). Se evaluaron cuatro intervalos de corte (3, 4, 6 y 10 meses) y 14 cultivares de caña de azúcar. Se detectó efecto del intervalo de corte y del cultivar sobre AP, NT, BV y BS. También se detectó efecto del intervalo de corte sobre RHT, BVaj y BSaj. La AP (2,90 m), BVaj (113,8 t MF ha-1 año-1) y BSaj (59,8 t MS ha-1 año-1) fueron mayores en el intervalo de 10 meses. El NT (16,3 tallos/m) y RHT (0,97) fueron superiores en el intervalo de cuatro meses. Los cultivares experimentales V 99-6, V 99-8 y V 99-262 mostraron la mejor respuesta agronómica.
