The Women's Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC) is a registered non-profit organisation, committed to the promotion of women's reproductive health in sub-Saharan Africa. Founded in 1993, the centre's primary mission is to conduct multidisciplinary and collaborative research, advocacy and training on issues relating to the reproductive health of women. The centre pursues its work principally through multidisciplinary groups of national and international medical and social science researchers and advocates in reproductive health.
WHARC receives support and funding from the Ford Foundation, and technical co-operation from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts, USA and the Medical School, University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany. The centre attempts to improve the knowledge of women's reproductive health in Nigeria and other parts of Africa through collaborative research, advocacy, workshops and seminars and through its series of publications - the African Journal of Reproductive Health, the Women's Health Forum and occasional working papers.
