Australasian Biotechnology, Vol. 10 No. 3, 2000, pp. 3 FROM THE EDITORMartin Playne, Editor Code Number: au00027 This bumper issue has been released especially for our national conference- ABA2000, being held in Brisbane during the first week of July. The issue has a special feature on the water industry and its use of biotechnology. Dr Brian Bolto has assisted us in putting together this special feature on the water industry. We thank him for providing his expertise. We also profile the ABA2000 Conference and preview its events. We are also publishing a major overview of Australias biotechnology companies - timely for the Conference, but also a timely benchmark for the new millenium. The Australian Biotechnology Association is also keen to increase its membership - particularly important with all the current new activity in biotechnology. The Australian Biotechnology Association has changed its rules, and can now admit a new category of members - Institutional Members. A membership application form (see page 15) is included in this issue. I reiterate my request for readers to contribute Letters to the Editor (300 word limit) and Issues papers (800 word limit). I look forward to meeting many of you at ABA 2000. I hope you wont be shy in coming forward with your comments and constructive criticisms of the new journal format, and with your offers of help and contributions of papers for the journal. Special Features for the Year 2000 and beyondThe following list is for the special features planned for this year. While we normally seek contributions from experts for each special feature, we are pleased to accept also submitted papers relevant to the themes listed.
