Dr. V. Shanta [Figure - 1] joined Adiyar Institution for oncology at the very inception in 1954. It was a small step to treat poor and the indigent for free. Now Adiyar is one of the premier Indian institution at the helm of which is Dr. V Shanta. She is a strict disciplinarian dedicated to the cause of the poor. She may be an anachronism in today′s world of market force driven healthcare system. But those who dare dream the utopian world are the one who are capable of leaving a footprint on the sands of time. Dr. V.Shanta has done just that in developing the institution. She has innumerable scientific publications.

Her work in the area of sensitisers produced seminal papers. She also has the credit of establishing first hyperthermia center in the country.

She has won Magsaysay award for her selfless labour to promote Adiyar institute.

Award is Asia′s version of Nobel prize for public service. We from the association of radiation oncologist heartily congratulate on her achievement
