This two-volume set comes from England with contributions from the United States, France, and Greece. The first volume covers general principles of oncology and the primary evaluation and staging of tumors. The second volume covers hematologic malignancies, pediatric neoplasms, metastases, tumors related to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, and the assessment of treatment and complications. Individual chapters discuss tumors of specific anatomic areas such as the lung, stomach, kidney, prostate, breast, and thyroid.

Key points and topic summaries are highlighted on almost every page with the use of colored boxes. Not only is this method attractive, but it makes these points easier to remember and find again when one returns to a particular chapter.

The beauty of Imaging in Oncology is the simplicity with which this complex topic is presented. The editors have produced a reference not just for oncologists but also for general and subspecialty radiologists who see patients with neoplasms. Each chapter discusses the epidemiology, clinical presentation, staging, and treatment of a specific cancer. The roles of the various imaging modalities are also presented, which may be of particular interest to residents and nonradiologists. All the major tumor groups are included. There are even short sections on trophoblastic disease and adamantinoma. The chapter on second malignancies discusses the most commonly linked malignancies and possible etiologies. Bibliographies at the end of each chapter cite references from the last 10 years.

The rich, concise text is complemented by good-quality images drawn by Dee McLean. Several examples of the same neoplasm are demonstrated with different modalities. Abundant radiographs as well as ultrasonographic, computed tomographic, and magnetic resonance images illustrate the concepts of tumor staging, treatment, and complications. Many helpful and pleasing diagrams depict normal anatomy and tumor staging.
