Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprology, Vol. 76, No. 2, March-April, 2010, pp. 219 Book Review Textbook of Dermatology Venereology and Leprology - Devinder Mohan Thappa Vinod K. Sharma Department of Dermatology and Venereology, AIIMS, New Delhi - 110029, India Correspondence Address: Department of Dermatology and Venereology, AIIMS, New Delhi - 110029, India, vksaiims@yahoo.co.in Code Number: dv10070 Publisher: Elsevier, Gurgaon, 3 rd edition, 2009 Pages: 452, Price: INR 795 This is a comprehensive textbook dedicated to dermatology, venereology and leprosy. It covers all aspects including clinical features with color photographs, differential diagnosis and treatment of dermatologic disorders. The sexually transmitted diseases and leprosy are well covered and illustrated. The chapters on basic sciences related to dermatology, skin signs, appendices and staining techniques are very useful. The use of the term minor sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) for diseases like condyomata accuminata and trichomoniasis is avoidable as no STD is minor and can contribute to spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The concept of syndromic management of STDs, if introduced to undergraduates, would go a long way in improving the management of STD in India. Some photographs have poor lighting and the identity of all patients needs to be hidden as far as possible. To summarize, it is the most comprehensive textbook of dermatology and can serve as a textbook for undergraduates and introductory book for postgraduates in dermatology. It is worth its price of Rs 795/- as it is published in four colors on good quality art paper. I would not hesitate to buy it for a medical college library.
