Usman from India, bring their wide experience gained in three different countries to produce a text and assemble illustrations (700 in number) under Part I (seven sections - I to VII - Sexual health consultation, Genital ulceration, Vaginal discharge, Urethral discharge, Scrotal swellings, Infections and dermatological conditions of the genital skin and Sexually transmitted anorectal infections) and Part II (two sections- VIII and IX- Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and Viral hepatitis) with an appendix of reference resources, and a further reading in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and in HIV and hepatitis. The book provides information in point format as a quick guide to help in the management of sexually transmitted infections and HIV, supplemented with clinical illustrations to aid recognition of most presentations of STIs and HIV. It is printed on a good quality paper and intended for all health care professionals working in the field of STIs/HIV, and to enable them to treat patients effectively to reduce the burden of the disease. Basically, this book can be used to get a quick overview of STIs and HIV after the students have gone through detailed text in the textbooks of STIs. Beginners in the subject will find it very useful to get a feel of the subject of STI and HIV. Color illustrations are given in plenty to make the subject interesting. Apart from some illustrations which are not of good quality, graph lines that have not come out well (page 45) and a few of them getting interchanged (page 197), most of them are of good quality to make learning and viewing the images a pleasure. The names of the organisms need to be put in italics. Some of the spelling mistakes in the text could have been avoided, which I am sure authors will take care of in subsequent editions of this book. This book on STI and HIV is definitely not a replacement for standard textbooks on STI and HIV in India. But still, this book is worth an addition in medical college libraries to remind us and revise the hilarious lectures of Dr. N. Usman in India, and to learn STIs and HIV in a simplified way.
