Sir,

I read, with great interest, the case report by Sarda et al .[1] describing lipoma of the sole. Plantar lipoma of children is a well defined entity. Ronald Illingworth, in his classic book "The Normal Child",[2] described it a normal variant of childhood physique. In his opinion it is a self-limiting condition and it does not require any treatment. If it is painful, perhaps analgesics are sufficient. In fact such tumors in children are not true lipoma but they are lipoma like aggregation of matured adipose tissue. I would like to know why the authors considered it pathological and proceeded to surgically excise it.

Gift authorship is palpable in this paper, as six persons are credited with authorship of this single-case report. I wish JIAPS should publish the details of contribution by individual authors as it is done in British Medical Journal and Indian Pediatrics.
