With the 23rd year of publication of Indian Journal of Medical Microbiology (IJMM), majority of the current team of editorial board members enter into their second term in office and the editorial office at LV Prasad Eye Institute steps into the 5th year of publication of the journal. In the past years we have seen a sea change in medical microbiology in India. In many institutions we are at par with the international standard of medical microbiology. Conversant with electronic media, the current generation of medical microbiologists are equally adept at research and publication in peer reviewed journals. This all round improvement has been reflected in the journal. The IJMM has played an important role in bringing in new knowledge in the hands of Indian medical microbiologists and has kept up with time.

In this issue of IJMM I place before our readers my appreciation for all members of the editorial board and the reviewers, without whom this race could not have continued. In this journey, some new editorial board members with proven track record of scientific vigour and pursuit of excellence, have joined us. I thank them for their consent to join the race.

This is a never ending race which pursues nothing but good science. Flowers that we pick up on the way keep us going. In this endeavour all we ask our readers is to choose IJMM for publication of their research/diagnostic work. This does not, however, suggest that all that is submitted will be published. All submission undergo a fair review process, a system of great merits. It helps filter out the weed and ensures that good science reaches the readers for providing direction. It also keeps the system transparent and open to comments. Despite some shortcomings, this is the best system we have and the IJMM is committed to run with new vigour in this search for excellence.
