Medical textbooks′authors have taken to many innovations in presentation lately to make the books student-friendly and examination-oriented. A Review of Oral Pathology by T. Shamim is one of them. The author has compiled a set of multiple-choice questions with answers at the end of the chapters. However, the title described as a review of existing information in oral pathology is misleading. It is a series of multiple-choice questions with minimal and often short explanations given at the end of the chapters. Subjects of developmental disorders, infections and tumors have been dealt with in a similar manner. Injuries, caries, allergic disorders and diseases of the bones, nerves, skin and muscles as well as of blood have also been dealt with by questions of a multiple-choice answer format. While formulating the questions with multiple-choice answers, the technical points of validity of distractors have not been kept in mind in various sections. The language of questioning has not been given attention, e.g ., many questions begin with "which shows...?" An appropriate sentence would have been "which one of the following shows...?" It is hoped that the author would modify the questions appropriately in the subsequent editions. At the end of the book, there are several chapters on self-assessment which would be found useful by students. As the author mentions in the foreword of the book, this book has to be read as a follow-up to a textbook of oral pathology.
