Review of AJBR’s Instructions to Contributors

Code Number: md06012

The publishing world is witnessing a rapid improvement in the assessment ofscientific information for suitability and acceptability to the immediate and international communities. The African Journal of Biomedical Research agrees with concept of a transparent and open peer-review process. The guideline for intending contributors to AJBR has therefore been revised to facilitate a faster peer review process.

Authors are advised to specially take note of the following:

  1. As from January, 2006, only electronic version of manuscripts sent as e-mail attachments to the editorial office will be accepted. All manuscripts should be electronically mailed to the following e-mail addresses: ajbrui@hotmail.com or ajbrui@yahool.com. Thus, hardcopy submissions of manuscripts and other supporting information are no more acceptable.

  2. All manuscript submissions must be accompanied by a completed form indicating the originality of the work and that the work is not being considered for publication elsewhere. The format is shown on the next page.

  3. Where the editorial cannot reach conclusion on the possible reviewers for a submitted manuscript, authors may be asked to provide the contact details, including e-mail addresses, of at least four potential peer reviewers for their manuscript. These should be experts in their field of study, who will be able to provide an objective assessment of the manuscript. Such suggested peer reviewers should not have published with any of the authors of the manuscript within the past four years and should not be members of the same research institution.

  4. Manuscripts not prepared according to the journal’s laid down style and standard will not be sent for review. Such manuscripts will be returned unassessed.

It is the sincere hope of the editorial board that these measures will improve the rate of processing of submitted manuscripts.
