Code Number: ni02001 'Neurology India', the show-window of the progress of neurological sciences in India, has successfully completed 49 years of publication. I dedicate the 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee issue to all those who have been instrumental in making 'Neurology India' achieve heights of excellence. It is an emotional moment, full of joy and fulfillment, not only for me, but also for the earstwhile editors, contributors, reviewers and above all the Neurological Society of India. 'Neurology India', along with the Neurological Society of India, has grown stronger with the passing of every year. It has shown a steady and note-worthy progress in the quality of research published as well as the publication methodology. The full articles of the journal are now available on internet in the pdf format and the journal is indexed in MEDLINE and Index Medicus. The readership has expanded beyond the boundaries of the country. The internet issue of the journal has more than 500 hits per day, from all over the world. At this juncture, the sense of fulfillment is immense and the desire to do better very strong. Neuroscience has always been a fascinating and intriguing subject. Lot of research has been done over the years and our perspectives and ideas about many disorders, have changed. Research and analysis has given us clear and less ambiguous facts about tropical neurology; and we have become more scientific and rationale in our approach towards the patients. Although controversies increase when ideas are freely exchanged, yet, these are the stimuli for further research. Had it not been for the innovative ideas and desire for better understanding of the subject, we would have not seen so much growth of neurological sciences in India. Though progress is being made in the molecular diagnosis and therapeutic aspects of disorders seen in India, there is glaring deficiency of the epidemiological studies. The life expectancy of Indians is increasing, and is nearing the Western figures, however many diseases still start at very young age. The exact picture can only emerge after multicentric national epidemiological studies. Over the years, requests for publications have immensely increased making the task of Editor difficult. The happiness of knowing that the journal is appreciated and is sought after, is extreme. I look forward to seeing still better research published in the journal from young neuroscientists, bringing it at par with the western publications. I congratulate all members of the Neurological Society of India on this happy occasion and wish that we remain united and strong to discover the yet unknown. Copyright 2002 - Neurology India.
