Neurology India, Vol. 51, No. 1, Jan-Mar, 2003, pp. 134-135 Letter to Editor Indian references in Neurology India P. N. Tandon President, NBRC Society, SCO 5,6 & 7, Sector 15, Part II, Gurgaon-122001. Haryana. E-mail: nbrc@vsnl.com Accepted on 25.02.2003. Code Number: ni03051 Sir, Today I received the December 2002 Volume of Neurology India. As I browsed through it a few thoughts came to my mind, which I wish to share with the members of our society. In spite of repeated exhortations and requests by persons like Professor Chandy and Ramamurthi over many years, I still find lack of adequate efforts on the part of the authors to quote significant Indian publications. I do not wish to single out any particular paper but just as an example, both papers on amoebic (Naegleria / Acanthamoeba) fail to refer to the first report on the subject by Jolly and Singh or the later papers by Bhatia et al (Neurol India 1973;27:44-7, J Postgrad Med 1984;30:125-8 ). To make this task easier two volumes were published (Maheswari & Tandon 1982, Maheswari & Jain) which provided summaries of all the papers published in Neurology India. Dr Sunil Pandya produced a monumental volume (Neurosciences in India, 1989) summarizing all significant contributions of Indian Neurosciene. The Textbook of Neurosurgery (Ramamurthy & Tandon 1980, 1996) made special efforts to include most of the significant Indian contributions under each chapter. Neuroinformatic centre of NIMHANS has produced a compact disc for this purpose. Is it then expecting too much from the authors to spare a little effort for the younger generation ot know that the members of our society have, from its very inception been concerned with addition to new knowledge?
