Our friend and colleague Professor Marco Maroni (57 years) passed away on Thursday, 29 June 2006 at 4 pm, at the age of 56 years. Marco died of a heart attack. Marco Maroni was Professor of Occupational Medicine at the School of Medicine of the University of Milan and head of the Division of Occupational Medicine and Environmental Toxicology. He was also director of the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health at the University Hospital "Luigi Sacco" in Milan and of the International Centre for Pesticides and Health Risk Prevention (ICPS), Prof. Marco Maroni has been working since the early seventies in the field of occupational health, toxicology and public health. In the course of his career he has conducted numerous educational activities and research studies. He has actively participated in different scientific organizations and committees, at national and international level and has produced numerous publications of high scientific value. Prof. Marco Maroni was a true friend of India. He was in Goa for Medichem conference in Sept 2005. As Director, International Centre for Pesticide Safety, a WHO Collaborating Centre in Occupational Health, Marco had always been a strong voice for the importance of occupational health in Europe and globally. Marco was also a key organizer of the ICOH 2006 Centennial Congress held in Milan from 10-16 June. Marco will be sorely missed by all of us.
