Prof. Narayan Singh Parmar, Director, Institute of Pharmacy, and Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Nirma University of Technology, Ahmedabad, passed away while delivering the presidential address in a function arranged for the ′Prof. M. L. Shroff Oration′ at the KB Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research in Gandhinagar. Prof. M. L. Shroff is considered as the father of Pharmacy Education in India. Prof. Parmar was narrating the qualities of a good pharmacy teacher and expressed his pride and satisfaction on the establishment of a model Pharmacy College in Gujarat which excelled in every aspect, starting from the infrastructure, staff and academic performance of the students to national level professional activities such as organization of conferences and staff development programs.

Prof. Parmar was a pharmacy graduate from Sagar University, Sagar (M.P.), a postgraduate in pharmacology from two faculties (Medicine and Pharmacy) from Rajasthan University, Jaipur and held a PhD from JIPMER, Pondicherry. He had served in various capacities at JIPMER, Pondicherry; College of Pharmacy, Riyadh; AR College of Pharmacy, V. V. Nagar; Institute for Pharmacy Education and Research (PERD), Ahmedabad; B. N. College of Pharmacy, Udaipur; KB Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Gandhinagar and the Nirma Institute of Technology (Deemed University), Ahmedabad. He was the recipient of several awards, notably the Best Principal Award of the Association of Pharmacy Teachers of India. Besides academics, Prof. Parmar rendered honorary services to various professional and Government bodies like the All India Council of Technical Education and the Pharmacy Council of India.

Prof. Parmar was the founder member, Fellow and the Immediate Past President of the Indian Pharmacological Society. He organized the 34th Annual Conference of the IPS at Gandhinagar in December 2000. He was a member of the editorial team of the Indian Journal of Pharmacology. Bioflavonoids in gastric ulcer was his main area of research.

His charming personality, bubbling energy, academic brilliance and his efforts towards developing a number of new Pharmacy Institutions will always remind us of his contributions. His untimely demise has created a deep vacuum in the field of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences, which will be difficult to fill. [Figure - 1]
