Esmarch bandage is used for exsanguination of limb before typing tourniquet. However, Esmarch bandage does not last for a long time and tends to break after repeated autoclaving.

We found a cheap, effective and easily available replacement in the elastic bandage called Veas Bandage, which we have been also using on lymphedema patients. It sustains autoclaving for a longer time and lasts for more than 3 years even after multiple uses in such a busy set-up as ours.

It is available in 3" and 4" width sizes. The desired length can be cut from the whole bundle. Velcro traps can be stitched at the ends to prevent the bandage from coming out (Figure 1). It is cheaper than Esmarch bandage and more durable.
