A bright light was extinguished without warning on one summer′s day recently. The sad demise of Dr Rajendraprasad has left a void in our lives which will be difficult to fill. He came from a modest background being born in rural Karnataka. After qualifying from the Karnataka Medical College, Hubli in 1989 he went on to do his MS in General Surgery from Dr. V. M. Medical College & Civil Hospital, Solapur, Maharashtra and his M.Ch. from PGIMER, Chandigarh in 1998 followed by a Diplomate of National Board, New Delhi. Throughout his career he was a meritorious candidate and fondly remembered by all his teachers as an exceptionally focused individual. [Figure - 1]

He joined the Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai at a time of fundamental change and upheaval in that institution and rapidly changed the face of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery there through sheer hard work and application. He also was deeply interested in research and devoted his free time to anatomical research of flaps, which was successfully published as an original contribution.

He was a person full of ideas and with the zest for work and advancement of science. Material considerations were of no relevance in his life. We in the Plastic Surgical fraternity had very high expectations of a long innings of productive work and fundamental research from this truly exceptional young consultant but it was not to be. His sudden departure is a great loss both to his family as well as all of us. Let us hope that he now finds some peace and pray for his soul.
