Editorial Board

Code Number: th08001

Dear subscribers, colleagues and friends, The Editorial Board of the Tanzania Health Research Bulletin is excited to share a significant announcement regarding the future of the Bulletin. In January 2008, with Volume 10, Number 1, the Tanzania Health Research Bulletin will become the Tanzania Journal of Health Research.

Tanzania Health Research Bulletin was established in 1997 as tool of the Tanzania Health Research Users’ Trust Fund to provide a forum for researchers to share their research findings with policy and decision makers as well as the public and other researchers. The main objective of establishing the THRB was to make relevant and current health information available to scientists, policy and decision-makers, as well as the public in Tanzania and beyond.

For sometime during the past, the editorial board discussed about changing the Journal’s name. However, before the decision to change name was made, the editorial board sougth opionions of our readers. A survey was therefore carried out in October-November 2007 to evaluate the 10-year performance of the Bulletin through a self-administered questionannare. The questionnaire was sent to over 110 subscribers and authors of articles in the Bulletin. Sixty respondents returned the filled questionnaire. The majority of the respondents were not in favour of the name “Bulletin”. Several names were henceforth proposed. However the majority of the respondents proposed to change the name to Tanzania Journal of Health Research. Hence, during its meeting on 3rd December 2007, the Editorial Board decided to change the name of the Bulletin.

The discussions and the decision to change the name were not taken lightly. The Editorial Board is determined to ensure the quality of the future publications is given the highest priority and maintained. We hope the changes made will still expand the journal’s visibility and attract quality submissions from our subscribers and the scientific world at large. As the Tanzania Journal of Health Research, we will continue to publish articles with this content.

As the current Board, we are optimistic and excited about the change. We feel the Journal is more than a name. It represents our mission to ensure research findings are made available to a wide scientific world, a community of people who share a common goal. We believe the new name will continue to strengthen that tradition of quality and ethically accepted health research for socio-economic development of our people.

Thank you for your continued support,

Editorial Board,

Tanzania Journal of Health Research
