Abstract

Acute diarrhea diseases due to rotavirus have shown high levels of morbidity and mortality. The infections affect more than 90 % of the children under 3 years of age. General characteristics of virus: structure, pathogenesis and epidemiology and immunity, among others are expressed in this review. Particular attention is given to the recent vinculation between this virus with the central nervous system (CNS). Experimental and clinical evidences are shown in this work, although they are not concluding for the moment. We consider that this fact is very important and must be given special attention in the future.
