en Weight-Length Correlation Analysis of Captive Bottlenose Dolphins ( Tursiops gilli check for this species in other resources )
LUO Qing

Abstract

To study the correlation between weight and length of captive bottlenose dolphins ( Tursiops gilli check for this species in other resources ) (n=20), data collected from two aquariums were analyzed using linear correlation and regression. The results show a significant correlation between weight and length (r=0.960,P<0.01). The regression equation, which expresses the relationship between weight and length, is Y=2.19X-368.65. There is a strong tendency to increase body weight with the growth of body length. Based on the relationship between the two parameters, we can control the weight of dolphins and enhance the level of husbandry and management.
