Aguacero-INIA, a new spring triticale cultivar for Chile Mellado, Mario Z.; Madariaga, Ricardo B. & Matus, Ivan T. Abstract Aguacero-INIA is a spring triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack) cultivar created by the Wheat Project at Quilamapu Regional Research Center of the National Agricultural Research Institute (INIA), Chillán, Chile, from a cross made in 1992. The grain is red and it has an elliptical shape. The plant height varies between 105-120 cm and the spike is white and awned. Its yield in trials has varied between 7.0 and 12.0 t ha-1. Its grain hardness, sedimentation value and wet gluten ranged between 30-40%, 15-20 cm3 and 15-20%, respectively. These characteristics correspond to a soft grain in the scale used for wheat. Resumen Aguacero-INIA es un cultivar de triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack) de primavera creado por el Proyecto Trigo del Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias, en el Centro Regional de Investigación Quilamapu, Chillán, a partir de un cruzamiento efectuado en 1992. El grano es de color rojo y de forma elíptica. La altura de la planta varía entre 105 y 120 cm, y la espiga es blanca y barbada. Su rendimiento en ensayos ha variado entre 7,0 y 12,0 t ha-1. La dureza del grano, el valor de sedimentación y el glúten húmedo varían entre 30-40%, 15-20 cm3 y 15-20%, respectivamente. Estas características corresponden a un grano suave, en la escala usada para el trigo. La proteína y niveles de energía del grano indican que es apropiado para alimentación animal.
