The coconut palm,
Cocos nucifera
L. (Arecaceae) is a perennial oil plant, grown in the coastal regions of the intertropical zone of Côte d’Ivoire. However, the plant is usually damaged by insects. This study aimed at determining the orders and families of the insects living in the International Coconut Gene bank for Africa and the Indian Ocean (ICG-AIO) located at Marc Delorme research station, Côte d’Ivoire. The insect samples were collected in various sites according to the coconut palm ages from the nursery (6 months) until the old coconut fields (40 years). Four insect traps such as, pitfall trap, yellow, pit and luminous traps were used in the study. A total of 404 insects were collected on the nursery coconut plants of 6 months old, 375 insects were sampled in the fallows, 365 insects were inventoried on the young coconut plants of 5 years old, 313 insects were sampled among adult coconut plants of 10 years age and 273 insects were collected in old field planted with coconut palms of 40 years old. Occurrence of the depredator insect on various coconut palm sites differed according to the development stage of the plants and insects. These depredator insects were attacked by predators and parasitoids insects which contribute to their regulation of the depredators populations. The insects were diversified less on the different coconut palm sites with diversity indices of Shannon < 1,5 bits and equitabilities < 0,50 %. s à 50 %). This study implique actualisation of the list of coconut insects towards differents damages observed in coconut farming areas.
