Vladimir Zaninovic

Abstract

About 6% of men and 18% of women suffer mygraine. Recent investigations suggest that a nervous system hypersensibility, possibly genetically determined is the main cause of mygraine. The main trigger factors and the liberation of neuropeptides, prostaglandins, histamine and serotonine appear to stimulate the trigeminal nerve endings where the pain is produced. The rational objectives of treatment, the prevention measures and the most frequently used drugs are briefly mentioned.
