Cases of
Scytalidium
ssp. seen in patients at the external consultation of the Dermatological
service at Hospital General Plaza de la Salud in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in the
period of 2010 to 2014. are reported. The main target of this study was to obtain information
about cases of
Scytalidium spp. infections on skin and nails on patients who attended the
department of dermatology at Plaza de la Salud Hospital and understand their clinical diagnosis
and show the most common topography of lesions Method: A descriptive, retrospective study
was made (2010-2012),
and partially prospective (2013-2014).
The authors reviewed each one of
the laboratory records, in search of the cases of infections by
Sytalidium spp. Results: Of a total
of 10 evaluated cases, 9 were female, and 1 was male, with ages between 4-70.
Neoscytalidium
dimidiatum
appear in (90%),
Scytalidium hialinum
(10%), associated to
Trichophyton
mentagrophytes
. 7 (70%), had onychomycosis in theirs nails foot, over the sole of the foot
2(20%), and 1 (10%) in hand palm, by
Scytalidium spp. We considered like worthy to emphasize
the following findings: 1) Feminine sex was affected; 2) the hyperkeratosis injuries were most
common; 3) a high incidence of hyperpigmentation in the injuries. Of the 10 patients studied, one
male and 9 female, aged from 4-70
years.
